MouraLua Sintra Guesthouse MouraLua

Your retreat in the
heart of Sintra

Just a 12–15 minute walk from the historic centre, where you'll find the splendid Sintra National Palace, 3.8 km from Quinta da Regaleira — the cathedral of Gothic Revival — and 6.1 km from Pena National Palace and the Moorish Castle, we're close enough to the village's main attractions and far enough from the historic centre's bustle and noise, making MouraLua the perfect retreat to relax and unwind comfortably at the end of the day.

How to get here

In the heart of the village

We sit right between the two last stations on the Sintra line — Portela and Sintra — a 5–6 minute walk from each.

From the airport

By metro (red line) to Oriente station, then by train (Sintra line) straight to Sintra station — about 45–50 minutes in total.

Or take the Aerobus — the dedicated shuttle linking the airport to central Lisbon — to Rossio, and from there the direct train to Sintra, a 30 to 40 minute ride.

A more direct alternative: taxi, Uber or Bolt, roughly 30–45 minutes depending on traffic.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking

Where is MouraLua located?+

At Rua Capitão Mário Alberto Soares Pimentel, 7, 2710-589 Sintra — a fully pink building, between the CasAzul Hostel and the Portela Market.

How do I get there from Lisbon Airport?+

By metro (red line), changing at Alameda to the green line, getting off at Rossio (about 30-35 min); then a direct train to Sintra, getting off at Portela de Sintra or Sintra Station (a further 40 min). The metro runs from 6:30 AM to 1:00 AM; trains from Rossio depart between 5:30 AM and around 1:00 AM, every 10-20 min at peak times and every 30 min otherwise and on weekends. Alternative: bus 744 (6:20 AM-9:35 PM) or the 208 night line (12:30 AM-5:35 AM, every 30 min), from Terminal 1, to central Lisbon/Rossio, then train to Sintra.

What is MouraLua close to?+

We're right between the last two train stations on the Sintra line, a 5-6 minute walk from each, very close to the Olga Cadaval Cultural Centre and right next to the Estefânia/Portela Market. As for attractions: 2 minutes on foot from the Sintra Tram station (to Praia das Maçãs), 5 minutes from buses 434 (Pena circuit) and 435 (Monserrate), and 12 minutes on foot from the historic centre and the Sintra National Palace.

Is there private parking?+

No, but there's a small public car park very close to our entrance (paid on weekdays and Saturday mornings, free on Sundays and public holidays), plus always-free parking areas nearby. More details in the Practical Information section.

When can I arrive and get into my room?+

You can arrive at the property any time from 8:00 AM, to drop off your luggage — but room entry is only available from 3:00 PM, once housekeeping is complete. Between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM, we always have support on hand for anyone who needs help with online check-in; outside that window, entry is always self-service, via your access code. If you arrive between 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM, please contact us, preferably via WhatsApp, so we can give you access to the luggage storage space — after 11:00 AM, once online check-in is done, you can use your access code directly. MouraLua is not responsible for loss or theft of personal belongings left in the luggage storage space.

How does online check-in work, and when do I get my PIN code?+

Online check-in is done through a form on a secure page. The email with the link is sent 2 days before arrival (check your Spam folder if you don't see it). After submitting the form, the system generates your PIN code for the guesthouse and your room, sent by email on the day of arrival itself, after 11:00 AM. If you prefer, both the link and the code can be shared via WhatsApp.

What is check-out time?+

By 11:00 AM.

Is any special procedure needed for check-out?+

No — just leave the room and close the door.

Can I leave my luggage at the property on check-out day?+

Yes. Please let us know in advance, preferably via WhatsApp. To collect it, contact us 10 minutes before you arrive, so we can send you a new PIN code. MouraLua is not responsible for loss or theft of personal belongings left in the luggage storage space.

Is there a tourist tax in Sintra? Do I pay it separately, or is it included in the price?+

Yes. Sintra's municipal tourist tax is €2/guest/night, up to a maximum of 3 consecutive nights, with an exemption for children under 13. You can find the full official information here. On all bookings made through our website, the tax is shown separately from the stay price, but is already included in the total amount to pay.

Do I have to pay a deposit to confirm my booking?+

It depends on the rate. With the Non-Refundable rate (the one with the biggest discount), 100% payment is made at the time of booking. With the Standard rate, the booking is confirmed by email, followed by a second email with an online payment link and its deadline — if payment isn't confirmed by that date, the booking is automatically cancelled.

What's the cancellation policy?+

It depends on the rate chosen at the time of booking. With the Standard rate, cancellation is free up to 3 days before arrival. For details on all rates, see the Terms & Conditions.

Are there rules to follow during my stay?+

Yes — you can see the full list in the Practical Information section. Breaking any of them, in particular the smoking ban in all indoor spaces and on room balconies, entitles us to immediately cancel the booking, with no refund, and require immediate departure from the property.

Is there free Wi-Fi?+

Yes, free high-speed 1Gb Wi-Fi 6 internet, throughout all indoor and outdoor spaces.

Do all rooms have a private bathroom?+

Partially — only the Standard Suite has a private bathroom. The rest share the 3 existing bathrooms (on average, 1 per 2 rooms).
